Summit grant NWO

The Summit Grant offers research funding for ten years to scientific consortia that have proved in the course of their existing collaboration that they are among the absolute world leaders, or are very close to reaching that status and can make the leap to the very top with the help of this instrument. Consortia can be nominated by the boards of knowledge institutions.

Purpose

The Summit Grant is intended for scientific consortia that have proved in the course of their existing collaboration that they are among the absolute world leaders, or are very close to reaching that status and can make the leap to the very top with the help of this instrument. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science’s aim with the funding for this programme is to promote research of exceptional quality and achieve major breakthroughs with the funded research.

The breakthrough should mark a significant shift, advance or insight in relation to existing ideas and methods, conceptual frameworks, tools or technologies. It is a programme for the long term (10 years), but the impulse it provides will also help to ensure that the selected consortia can retain and further develop a strong position in a particular field after those 10 years. The grants are intended for the entire spectrum of science.

Who can apply

The Executive Boards of universities located in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Executive Boards of the University Medical Centres, the KNAW institutes and the NWO institutes can nominate consortia to NWO. Please note! The maximum number of submissions that each Executive Board may submit is two. A consortium may only be nominated once. Applications must be submitted to NWO via its electronic submission system by the consortium’s principal applicant, who will be the main contact person for the programme.

A consortium must consist of more than four researchers in one or more disciplines. Only existing consortia, which can have been formed by Dutch research schools or by a team of influential researchers and research groups, may be nominated.
