The Organ-on-Chip Centre Twente (OoCCT) was featured at the TechMed Event 2023, which took place at the University of Twente on November 1st 2023. The session entitled “Better designs, better health” was moderated by Liliana Moreira Teixeira, scientific lead of OoCCT, and attracted a diverse audience, including clinicians, researchers, and technology enthusiasts, all keen on exploring the latest advancements in healthcare technology.
During the session, the OoCCT showcased its latest research and developments across three key areas, with local engineers collaborating closely with medical professionals. Topics covered included the Joint-on-Chip technology, Lung-on-Chip research, and the Heart-on-Chip company collaborations. The collaborative efforts with various organizations and clinicalpartners were highlighted, emphasizing the potential impact of these advancements on the field of healthcare technology.
Spearheading the Joint-on-Chip technology discussion, Marcel Karperien and Laurens Spoelstra, in collaboration with the Reumafonds and academic partners, presented a comprehensive understanding of their progressive initiatives. Anne van der Does, alongside OoCCT’s scientific lead Andries van der Meer, shed light on the latest Lung-on-Chip research, supported by the Longfonds and Leiden UMC. Furthermore, Carla Cofiño Fabres, through her Heart-on-Chip PhD- project and collaborative efforts with Marcelo Ribeiro’s River BioMedics, spin-off from the University of Twente, showcased the translational potential of their research.
With this showcase of collaborative efforts and cutting-edge research, the OoCCT could demonstrate its commitment to advancing medical research and technology, fostering advancements in patient care and treatment outcomes with Organ-on-Chip technology.
