Organs-on-chips and hDMT in Dutch and European Science Policy

hDMT is actively involved in the Dutch National Research Agenda. hdMT is also mentioned in the roadmap Regenerative Medicine (Topsector Life Sciences and Health) and in the roadmap Chemical Nanotechnology and devices (Topsector Chemistry). There is also a link with the Topsector High Tech Systems and Materials, and the Topsector Agri & Food.  In addition, this topic is one of the areas of interest in the 2016 Multi Annual Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for ECSEL Joint Undertaking (MASRIA 2016).

Organ-on-chip in the Dutch National Research agenda

hDMT scientists are involved in 3 route workshops for the Dutch National Research agenda:

  1. (1) Regenerative Medicine
  2. (2) Personalized Medicine
  3. (3) Brains, cognition and behavior
  4. In particular question 101 relates to the Organ-on-chip technology: Can we develop models of the human body and use smart technology for health-, food- and toxicity research purposes and simultaneously reduce animal use?

About the Dutch National Research Agenda

In November 2015 the Dutch National Research Agenda (NWA) was launched. This Agenda was initiated by the Knowledge coalition (VSNU, KNAW, NWO, Vereniging Hogescholen, TNO and Federation TO2, VNO-NCW and MKB Nederland). It was based on 12.000 research questions that were contributed by the Dutch population and have been clustered since into 140 questions and 16 different routes.

The routes are currently being worked out in route workshops and might result in new partnerships and collaborations between different disciplines and organizations. The outcome of the workshops will form the basis for possible new investments by the Dutch government in science and innovation.
