A happy and successful new year to you all!

This is the first hDMT newsletter of 2024, full of Organ-on-Chip news. Several new grants have been awarded within hDMT, and a new theme group (Lung-on-Chip) has been established. We said goodbye to Ellen Thomassen, long-time coordinator of hDMT, but also welcomed the first group of new members to the growing hDMT team. The hDMT Consortium meeting 2023 was again a success and showed how much the hDMT Organ-on-Chip community has expanded. A wave of energy

The Organ-on-Chip field is full of energy, in the Netherlands, in Europe and beyond. Within the hDMT Consortium many new initiatives have been launched already or will start during the next months. The NXTGEN HIGHTECH project has kicked off with the official approval of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. hDMT is a key player in the domain Biomedical Production Technologies. Editorial April 2023

Extra impulse for hDMT hDMT INFRA StemCells is one of the nine Large Scale Research Infrastructure projects that has been granted by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). On April 17th 2023, these projects were presented to the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Robbert Dijkgraaf at an award celebration in Naturalis, in Leiden. With the 13.5 million grant (in total 17 million euros with matching), researchers from the hDMT Consortium at University Medical Centers in Leiden, Rotterdam and Utrecht will join forces to establish a national state-of-the-art infrastructure, hDMT INFRA StemCells; the project will be coordinated by hDMT. hDMT is expanding!

During the past few months hDMT has grown substantially. The number of partner organizations has increased from 14 to 16 since VU Amsterdam and Hogeschool Leiden joined the Consortium. More than 165 hDMT researchers attended the annual hDMT Consortium meeting this year, an increase of 40% compared to the hDMT lustrum meeting in 2020. A new hDMT Bone-on-Chip group recently started as the 8th hDMT scientific theme group. And the number of awards, new grants, new researchers, new collaborators and new scientific results keeps growing.
