hDMT at the international Micronanoconference Amsterdam
The 13th Edition of the international MicroNanoConference, organized by MinacNed started on 11 December 2019 at the Beurs van Berlage in the centre of Amsterdam. Researchers from academia and representatives from industry followed a rich programme with presentations and keynotes in the fields of microfluidics, organ-on-a-chip, biosensing and functional surfaces and interfaces.
The hDMT workshop on Eye-on-Chip and Skin-on-Chip attracted much interest from the participants.
During the Eye-on-Chip workshop Wesley Buijsman and Aisen de sá Vivas of University of Twente explained how their retina-on-chip device can benefit research on age-related macular degeneration. They focused on the techniques to fabricate the retina-on-chip, and the readouts to validate the model.
During the Skin-on-Chip workshop Irit Vahav (group Sue Gibbs) of Amsterdam university medical center demonstrated how to use the TissUse device to construct the skin models and how to validate the models. The models will be used to test whether products from the personal care and pharmaceutical industries are safe for humans.
The four Organ-on-Chip sessions, chaired by hDMT, and the keynote lectures of Uwe Marx and Sabeth Verpoorte about Organ-on-Chip were well-visited.
