hDMT introducing Organ-on-Chip at BioJapan 2019
Just before the severe typhoon Hagibis hit Tokyo, over 1200 companies and research organizations from 34 countries gathered at Pacifico Yokohama in Japan from 9-11 October 2019. Among the participants were hDMT, Leiden University Medical Center, TNO, Mimetas and several other companies from the Netherlands. In addition to exhibitions and seminars, among others from the Nobel prize winner Shinya Yamanaka, an important part of the conference was the partnering event, a matchmaking opportunity for all participants.
In a common booth of hDMT and LUMC, and during a public pitch in the exhibition hall, Janny van den Eijnden-van Raaij presented the Organ-on-Chip Consortium hDMT in the Netherlands, the ORCHID project results and the European Organ-on-Chip Society (EUROoCS). Wim Fibbe (LUMC) presented the Center of expertise in regenerative medicine in Leiden and its partners.
There was much interest, in particular from the Japanese bioindustry, for the community building in the Organ-on-Chip field in Europe. It is expected that Japanese scientists will join the community soon and start worldwide collaborations.
