Britt van der Leeden starts on burn wounds research
PhD Student Britt van der Leeden joined the group of hDMT PI Hans Niessen and Sue Gibbs of the Amsterdam UMC, location AMC and VUMC on 1st April. Her project is in collaboration with the Dutch burn wound association. In this project, she aims to unravel the mechanisms underlying burn-induced NETosis and resultant microvascular thrombosis and damage and to determine how these relate to wound deepening and suboptimal healing.
As a means to unravel the mechanisms we also aim to study whether therapeutic inhibition of NETosis can counteract post-burn thrombosis and microvascular damage. The results of this project can be a stepping-stone for the development of a therapy that will significantly improve the quality of life for burn patients in the future.
