Succesful second International Organ-On-Chip Symposium (IOOCS17) was held in Lausanne
On 2 and 3 May, 2017 the 2nd hDMT International Organ-on-Chip Symposium took place at the EPFL campus in Lausanne. There were 120 participants from various countries and organizations, including universities, knowledge institutes and industry. Over 30 posters were presented and there were lively discussions between different disciplines.
The speakers presented models mimicking human organs and tissues, including the intestinal epithelium, vascularized cancer tissue, heart and vessels, pancreas and brain, to study organ development and disease mechanisms, and to use them as test systems for drugs. The Best Poster Award was for Lenie van den Broek who presented a poster about skin-on-chip: Integrating Skin-Tissue and Microsystems engineering (Bergers et al., VU University Medical Center/Philips/TU Delft, The Netherlands).
The IOOCS17 was the second of the series of annual symposia on organ-on-chip.
