Encouraged by the Dutch Enterprise Agency (RVO) representatives of the Mizuho Information & Research Institute in Tokyo visited hDMT at UTwente in Enschede on 18 January 2017.

In commission of the Japanese NIH (AMED; Japanese Agency for Medical Research and Development), with involvement of the Japanese Ministry of Econcomy, Trade and Industry (METI) this Institute is conducting a technology trend research for in vitro drug evaluation. The possibility of using organ-on-chip devices to support drug discovery will be investigated.

The Mizuho Institute was impressed by the presentations and discussions about organ-on-chip and stem cell developments in the Netherlands and by the collaboration between different disciplines from public and private partners in the hDMT Consortium. In particular, the combination of top level research expertise from different disciplines within hDMT, and the network of all stakeholders in the organ-on-chip field in The Netherlands was mentioned as an excellent model for Japan and a basis for future collaborations.
