hDMT contributed to an exploration by ZonMw for a Dutch research program for innovations without laboratory animals. The exploration was presented to minister Schouten (LNV) on 19 May 2021.
On 19 May 2021 minister Carola Schouten of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality received from Jeroen Geurts, chairman of ZonMw, an exploration for a Dutch research program for innovations without laboratory animals. Jeroen Geurts emphasized the conclusion from the exploration that more coordination and investment in research will help accelerate the transition to innovation without laboratory animals. The exploration is an initiative of ZonMw and the National Committee for Advice on Animal Testing Policy (NCad). They are both partners in the Transition to Animal-Free Innovation (TPI) program. This TPI program is directed and facilitated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
Minister Schouten: ‘Over the past 2.5 years, TPI has taken the transition to innovation without laboratory animals a major step further. Researchers, financiers, evaluators, NGOs, entrepreneurs and policymakers with the same goal are already getting to know each other better and better. At the same time, I understand that the ambition is high and that we want to move forward faster. It is therefore good that ZonMw and NCad are thinking about how we can further shape TPI in the future. In the coming years, everyone’s commitment will continue to be necessary to ultimately be able to be animal-free as much as is responsible, and this exploration will help with that.’
